In September 2019, ACMO brought a Fire Code Enforcement Crackdown to the attention of condominium professionals provincially.
More specifically, the crackdown is conducted by municipal Fire Services and is targeted primarily towards high-rise and multi-unit condominium corporations.
Hundreds of new fire inspectors have been hired to undertake this blitz, and will be taking a Zero Tolerance approach – issuing Notices of Violation for those not in compliance.
An often overlooked area when it comes to Fire Code Compliance is the underground parking garage in a condominium.
The underground parking garage is subject to multiple municipal, building, and fire codes, each of which has its own rules on how an underground garage must be painted or marked.
To go through each of the relevant guidelines and try to figure out how they apply to your type of building is likely to leave you frustrated and never wanting to look at it again.
We address this further in our “Up To Code” post by John Margaritis, but would also like to draw attention to it once again as managers change properties and new managers enter the scene.
If you have an unpainted or unfinished garage – or you simply want to make sure your building marking are compliant with building and fire codes, contact us below and we will be in touch with you within 24 business hours.
